Post-Reiki Guide: Five Tips for Self-Care

Updated: Apr 27

As a Reiki practitioner, what happens to clients after they leave my office is as important as what happens during our time together. This is why I've compiled a short guide with five tips for self-care following a Reiki session.

In my years of working with clients, I've learned that everyone's post-Reiki experience is unique and based on the different areas targeted during the Reiki healing. Sensations can vary from nothing at all to feeling tired, more emotional than usual, or some tenderness in the body. This is because, after a Reiki session, a client's body continues to release toxins and self-heal. The feelings may be more apparent if it's your first time doing a Reiki session or your first time in many years. However, as you continue to heal yourself and, if needed, receive more treatments, achieving balance on an energetic level becomes easier.

Here's a guide on what to do after a Reiki session to support your well-being:

1. Mindful Awareness: Take note of any emotions or sensations that arise post-session. Emotions are often stored in the body, and Reiki can stir them up as part of the healing process. Practice mindful awareness of these feelings. If discomfort arises, visualize releasing it with each exhale. Allow yourself to breathe through any tension, letting it dissipate naturally.

2. Nourish Your Body:  Opt for nourishing, whole foods to support your body's natural healing process. Avoid processed foods, excessive sugars, caffeine, and alcohol, which can hinder the body's ability to detoxify and replenish. Instead, prioritize nutrient-rich meals that fuel your body with vitality and promote overall well-being.

3. Hydration is Key: Drink plenty of fluids such as water, herbal teas, and fresh juices. Hydration helps flush out toxins from your system and promotes cellular renewal and revitalization.

4. Natural Pain Management: Resist the urge to numb discomfort with painkillers, especially in the first 48 hours post-Reiki. Instead, explore natural pain management techniques such as gentle movement, heat therapy, or soothing baths with Epsom salts. If symptoms persist or intensify, consult your healthcare provider for personalized guidance and support.

5. Embrace Rest: Listen to your body's cues and allow yourself to rest as needed, whether a whole night's sleep or a rejuvenating midday nap. Doing this enables your body to integrate the healing energies received during the Reiki session, promoting overall balance and vitality. Here's a Solfeggio Frequency track you can listen to further cleanse the mind and body.

In addition to these aftercare tips, it's essential to have a supportive environment for ongoing healing. Surround yourself with positivity, engage in activities that nourish your mind and body, and seek other holistic practices that resonate with you. Remember, your healing journey is a partnership, and your active participation, including self-care, is a vital part of the ongoing process, so be patient and compassionate with yourself.
